Key Areas of Focus
The thyroid gland is often called the “master gland.” This important little gland is located at the base of the neck about where you would wear a bow-tie and about the size of one. Thyroid issues can look like anxiety or even fatigue. In hypothyroidism, people struggle with weight gain, fatigue, constipation, feeling cold all the time just to name a few. In patients with an overactive thyroid, hyperthyroidism, symptoms range from feeling hot all the time (different from a hot flash) to diarrhea and weight loss. To make it even more complicated, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease that produces symptoms like hyper- and hypothyroidism.
If your hormones are off balance you know it and so do your friends, spouse, neighbors and kids. At McMurray Clinic we use both serum (blood) testing and saliva testing to check levels. If you are a woman who still has a monthly cycle, we test hormones on days 19 to 22 of your cycle. For men, testing needs to be done before 10:00 a.m. We use a variety of methods to balance hormones from prescriptions to supplements and herbs.
The McMurray Clinic provides a variety of services to clients who are in therapy, to support the body and mind during high stress, grief, depression and other challenging seasons. From checking vitamin and micro-nutrients levels to using genetic testing to solidify the best medicines for treating depression, anxiety or mood disorders, we work closely with your therapist during the process. Gigi McMurray, FNP shares office space with six counselors providing easy access for clients.
